The 16th La. Infantry Regiment, Camp Moore July 2005
The 16th Louisiana Infantry/12th Connecticut Volunteer Regiment is a registered, not for profit reenactment group dedicated to educating the public and honoring the memory of those who wore the blue and gray in the American Civil War. Our roster consists of over thirty members from diverse backgrounds, all seeking to recreate the daily experience of the common soldier as closely as possible. We are teachers, tradesmen, engineers, accountants, lawyers, salesmen and students. The membership draws from various parts of the state of Louisiana- New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Walker, Watson, Slidell, Mandeville, Thibodeaux, Ponchatoula, Kaplan and Metairie, as well as southern Mississippi.

We could best be described as a "progressive campaign unit" (PCU). Given the various terms used in reenacting such as "authentics", "progressives" and "hardcores", PCU would be defined as one that:
- Primarily camps ‘campaign style’, that is minimum tentage in the form of dog tents or perhaps a company fly
- Believes in maintaining a soldierly decorum during the weekend, including drill (no drill, no fight), assignment of camp duties and maintaining the campsite in a military fashion the entire weekend as opposed to just when the camp is open to the public
- Emphasizes a constantly improving impression in the quality of the uniforms and accoutrements of its membership

While we hold that all three of the above qualities are important, we strongly believe that the first two points are the most important. Too many great impressions are ruined by cigarette smoking or the plastic and soup cans that sometime emerge from the haversack or $250 knapsack. We encourage our membership to upgrade their accoutrements when possible, but we will not turn away an averagely equipped individual who is willing to pack properly, cook in the field and maintain themselves properly in camp, drill and on the battlefield.
